// Preparing to come!

If you've already been accepted to DTS, here's some important info for you.

            Insurance

All students are required to have some form of health insurance upon arrival. If you are not covered by your own policy, YWAM International has a policy that you can sign up for that will cover you for the duration of the school, as well as overseas for a reasonable cost. (Information is enclosed.)

            Criminal Record and Background Check

We are required by law to have all people involved in our ministry to have background checks completed before they participate in any activities with us. You can visit your local police department, contact the FBI to get information, or view enclosed information to aid you in this area.

            Passport/Visa Info

All students NEED to have a passport NOW. Please be sure that the expiry date is after August 2009. Please mail us a photocopy of your current passport for our files when you return the other included forms. For our international students, now that you’ve been accepted you need to immediately apply for a B-1 tourist visa with a multiple entry provision. Upon request we can send you a letter that can help you in your application process. Please let us know if there’s any other way that we can assist you.

            Vaccinations/Immunizations

Please be sure that the form is completed and sent in as soon as possible, and that you are up to date with all other basic immunizations.

Location and Climate

Boston is a historically rich city located in the northeastern region of the US. It is the intellectual capital of New England and possibly of the entire country. It is a very beautiful city with a lot of diversity and culture. Here you will find the most talented, bright, and intelligent people from all around the world.

Accommodations

Housing will be dormitory style and you should also be aware that showers and bathrooms will be shared community style. You will have about 2-3 dresser drawers and about 5-7 hangers available for your clothing.

Luggage

There is limited closet and drawer space, please pack wisely. Please do not bring more than one suitcase, one large hiking backpack (will be necessary for the outreach), and one smaller bag (airline carry-on size-backpack). Luggage can be stored under your bed.

Food

Meals will be served on a scheduled basis in the dining hall. Snacks will be available at times. Special dietary needs are not included in the tuition fee and are the responsibility of the individual.

Bedding

You will need to bring your own bedding or plan to buy it here upon arrival. It WILL NOT be provided for you. A sleeping bag will be needed as well for the outreach.

If you are coming from overseas and need bedding, let us know ahead of time. We can purchase some for you from Ikea before you arrive and you can reimburse us. It is the cheapest, but a little far away.

Laundry

Currently our laundry facilities consist of one washer and dryer, however laundromats are a way of life for many people in Boston. In this case you will need some quarters. It's about $4 for a wash and dry of one load. (However, we do hope to have more free capabilities by the time you arrive.)

            Fees

Please come to the school prepared to pay your lecture fees (approx. $4200). Your outreach fees (approx. $3800) can be collected throughout the lecture phase, but a down payment for a plane ticket may be needed by month 2 of lecture. We will have a payment schedule for outreach fees ready soon. Please feel free to contact us if you need fundraising ideas. And remember that God is always faithful to provide for what He calls you to! The staff at YWAM Boston are a testimony to that indeed!

            Student Guidelines

Upon arrival, the first few days will be dedicated to orientation and team building exercises. Additional guidelines and information for the rest of the school will be clearly communicated from our student manual at that time.

The average temperatures in Boston range from 31-82 degrees from January to June. January is the coldest month on average, and it usually starts getting warmer through the month of April. However by the time you leave at the end of July, it will be “wicked hot” as they say here in New England. (However it's not guaranteed, you just never know around here!)

Vacations/Visitors

The daily schedule during the DTS is quite intense. Most weekends are filled with fun activities as well as homework. During the school, we usually have one weekend a month that is free, in which students would be allowed to go home or have visitors or be free to do whatever. Currently and probably during the school we will not be able to house many visitors at YWAM Boston. Please plan to make other housing arrangement for guests for these times.

Once again, please remember that we have limited space.
